Peter F. Drucker is widely considered to be the “father of modern management”.
Born and raised in Vienna, he was a child of the fertile cultural ground of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. These early influences shaped his mind. Although he spent most of his adult life in the US, his approach to society and management clearly has strong European roots.
Peter F. Drucker's 100th birthday in November 2009 is a unique opportunity to discover and to elaborate on the European dimension of Peter Drucker’s seminal work.

Peter Drucker was always clear about the fundamental role of management as the most important organ in what he called the modern “society of organizations”. "Management deals with people and their values…" and if management does not live up to its responsibility society is at risk.

Established as a nonprofit association in Vienna, the Peter Drucker Society will be an open platform and a European hub for a living dialogue on the future of management, with Peter Drucker’s thinking as its guiding light. It will be an important node in an emerging network of Drucker Societies all over the world furthering effective management and ethical leadership.

Peter Drucker called himself a “social ecologist”, which he defined as someone “concerned with man’s manmade environment the way the natural ecologist studies the biological environment”. He thus elevates our perspective beyond mere tools and recipes and places management at the heart of our societies – encompassing all sectors: for profit, nonprofit, government and NGOs.
